Related Policy: These procedures are in accordance with the policy Eligibility to Apply for, Hold and Administer Research Funding.

Procedures

The following procedures outline the process for determining a member’s eligibility to apply for, hold and administer Research funds. 

1.  ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY FOR RESEARCH FUNDING

All individuals intending to apply for Research funding shall:

a.  confirm they meet the Funder’s requirements

b.  confirm they are eligible to apply for Research funding as per Eligibility to Apply for, Hold and Administer Research Funding Policy

  1. if the member is eligible to apply for Research funding he/she should proceed with completing the application;
  2. if the member is eligible to apply for Research funding conditional on the terms of their appointment contract, the department head and dean (or director) must confirm this condition has been met;
  3. if the member is not eligible to apply, the member cannot apply for Research funding.

2.  ELIGILIBILITY TO HOLD AND ADMINISTER RESEARCH FUNDING

Recipients of Research funding shall:

a.  confirm they are eligible to hold and administer funds requirements as per Eligibility to Apply for, Hold and Administer Research Funding Policy

  1. If the recipient is eligible to hold and administer the Research Fund, the fund will be established in the University’s financial system under their name. Otherwise, such Research funding shall be placed in a separate fund in the financial system established under the name of the department head/dean/director.
  2. If the recipient is eligible to hold and administer Research funds conditional on the terms of their appointment contract, written confirmation of this inclusion in their contract shall be obtained from their department head/dean/director and sent to the Research Services and Ethics Office.
  3. If the recipient is not eligible to hold and administer Research funds, the fund will be established in the financial system under the name of the department head/dean/director. 

3.  INDIVIDUALS INELIGIBLE TO HOLD AND ADMINISTER RESEARCH FUNDING include, but are not limited to, the following:

a.  Post-doctoral fellows
b.  Graduate students
c.  Undergraduate students
d. Research associates, research scientists, senior research scientists appointed by faculty
e. Staff in positions in scope of CUPE 1975
f.  Staff in positions in scope of ASPA below the designation of Director
g. Exempt staff below the designation of Director
